WHERE IS THE LOVE ?

‘What the world needs now is love, sweet love.
It's the only thing that there's just too little of.
What the world needs now is love, sweet love.
No, not just for some, but for everyone’.

These are lines from the lyrics of a tune with which many reading this piece may be acquainted.

Is it really true? And if so, would it make a difference in this topsy-turvy world, which is currently our reality.

Love, it seems, has different flavours.

There's the unbridled expression experienced by the young, bolstered by a hormonal flush intended to fulfil nature's evolutionary imperative.

As Ella Fitzgerald declared…
‘This can't be love.
I get no dizzy spells.
My head is not in the skies.
My heart does not stand still.
Just hear it beat.
This is too sweet to be love’.

BUT, IS THIS THE LOVE THE WORLD NEEDS NOW ?

Maybe a dollop of that variety would displace the venting of rage and destruction witnessed recently in the Capitol.

Could it be, that what was happening was a collective call for help ? Would it be heresy to consider that many of the male souls co-opted into this tsunami of madness are victims of adverse childhood experiences ?

The expressed premise for the demonstration was a love of country and the realization of a desired political result.

Things got confused and distorted somehow.

A strange admixture of love and hate was on display seeking to coexist in the same container. But that is impossible, biologically.

Fighting, destruction, mayhem are manifestations of the limbic system of the brain. Fight or flight are components of its characteristics and there was an excess of the former.

The prefrontal cortex, where reason and creativity reside, was offline. The accumulated debris of egregious experiences spilled over from the amygdala and sought expression through violent activities directed at perceived enemies.

Sadly, crowd collaboration occurs in these circumstances. The madness spreads like a contagion on steroids, and people lose their minds, leaving no space for anything beautiful or kind.

What occurred on January 6th was a loveless mob, drunk on the wine of vengeance and destruction. Five people lost their lives. Blood was spilled. Fortunately, matters did not get worse.

There's talk of returning to a place of normalcy and peace, where somehow the subterranean fault lines are healed and disappear.
But Kumbaya is a pipe dream. The process of detoxification has begun. Healing will only occur when the process is complete.

There is the hope that from this place of debridement, a clear and free space can become available to elements that allow healing to occur. The healing that invites the Angels of our higher nature to take residence and permeate the collective spirits of us all, with the fragrance of a love supreme.

Wouldn't it be an incredible challenge to celebrate the question posed in the tune.
‘Now that we've found love, What are we going to do with it ?’
Performed by the group Third World.

This love is one that is birthed through the realization of shared aspirations.
But, this will take time.
Or, are you wondering as the Black Eyed Peas did, ‘Where is the love ?’

HAS YOUR HURT BEEN REPLACED WITH LOVE ?
