IT IS THE SEASON FOR GIVING.

All the senses are bombarded.

Elements that trigger the emotions announce the approach of one of the most celebrated holidays of the year. Multicoloured lights adorn the homes of many in the suburbs, while in the urban thoroughfares, red, white, green and gold frolic in a multitude of arresting combinations, inviting potential shoppers to purchase that special ‘something’ for that special ‘someone.’

Particular attention is made to include the addition of certain spices in food and drink. Recipes untouched for eleven months make their annual journey to the top of the menu hierarchy.

Although the pandemic has curtailed social interactions, the overriding spirit of the Season persists. The predominant questions remain:

What are you giving ?

What do I want ?

And what do I get ?

When condensed in this stark manner, there is little doubt that this appears to be a Season of transactions.

But there must be more than that.

Yes, it is the Season for giving, but lurking beneath that generous facade is the Season for getting. After all, Santa knows who's been naughty or nice, and no one, absolutely no one wants lumps of coal in their Christmas stocking.

On a more serious note here, is this all the Season represents ?
Is this a demonstration of getting and giving at its most callous level ?

Fall has shed its leaves, and the chill of Winter greets us with a frosty hello. Maybe we can collectively devise some act that will warm the heart, if not the extremities.

Maybe, we can engage in an emotional inventory. We can retrieve unsettled accounts; conversations for clarity and completion which never occurred, apologies withheld for words of anger that remain raw and unadorned, bare without the bandages of regret.

This year 2020, as it closes its eyes on what has been a tumultuous and dramatic juxtaposition of events, provides us with an opportunity to settle all emotional accounts ‘from a personal perspective,’ so that the New Year can begin as a clean slate.

Maybe, we can forgive.

Maybe, we can forget.

Maybe we can utilize the amazing gift that this year of 20/20 vision has provided, to embark on a new trajectory as a New Year dawns.

Discover the secret of the Season – those who give, automatically become recipients twice.

See if this is holds true for you.

MAY ALL FIND THE PEACE, WHICH BESTOWS UNDERSTANDING.

It is the season for giving.
