IN GRATITUDE.

So the year 2020 hurtles to its inevitable close, and we are incredibly blessed to have survived the tentacles of an invisible foe.

There should be a Mardi Gras of some sort to celebrate our survival, but alas, social distancing has nixed that possibility, even if we developed longer arms and ignored the spectre of tripping the light fantastic, adorned like the Lone Ranger.

Friend and family interactions have been curtailed, yet there is still a way to be together electronically, to remain in touch while observing social distancing in this Zoom-Zoom universe.

I am personally grateful for the deepening of family ties and friendships that I had taken for granted. 

Time has a sly way of slipping by without much fanfare. Yes, silver frosts the hair and beard, laugh lines replace a once baby-smooth face, and making it to the Olympics is no longer a priority. But many things continue to appreciate in value when viewed through sober eyes.

I was recently reminded of a 45-year long friendship, that I had taken for granted. 

Has this been the experience of some of you reading this piece ?

It is said that youth is wasted on the young; maybe there is some truth to that, but nothing can surpass the joy of good times shared and the healing balm of laughter from silly moments.

I feel incredibly blessed and grateful for all the ‘Angels’ who have made their presence felt in my life's journey.

I pledge to pay it forward as best I can, the benedictions of kind-hearted spirits who touched my life.

My prayer is that the lives of all who read this piece experience joy, happiness, good-will and every blessing this Season conveys.

May we all be visited by good fortune, bearing and leaving precious gifts to last not only through the New Year, but for a lifetime.
